🎬 COLIN FROM ACCOUNTS
I don’t know about you but I’m only in the mood for rom-coms and straight up coms at the moment. Loads of people recommended this to me and it’s great (it also has a 8.2 rating on IMDB so don’t just take my word for it). It’s an Australian comedy series created by husband-and-wife team Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer, about two strangers who come together over a car accident and an injured dog (called Colin).
Colin from Accounts is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

📚 BUT WHAT CAN I DO?
This is the latest non-fiction book published by political strategist and former Labour Party Campaign Director Alistair Campbell. The first half explores the major problems facing democracies around the world (the ‘3 p’s’ - populism, polarisation and post-truth) and the second half looks at what we can do about it, and offers tips for anyone looking to make a difference in or outside of the political arena.
You can buy But What Can I Do? in all good bookshops.
🎧 FATHERS AND SONS
This six-part series produced by Radio Wolfgang and Mr Porter explores the relationship between fathers and sons. Each 30 minute episode covers a different real-life father / son relationship. Episodes include The Change, that tells the story of a Dad’s support for their son through gender transition and The Date, where a son sets his Dad up on Tinder and encourages him to find love again.
You can listen to Fathers and Sons wherever you get your podcasts.
🌟 BONUS PODCAST… DUOLINGO
For any language lovers out there (or if you want to scrub up on your skills before your holidays) I also recommend Duolingo’s podcasts, where real people tell their life stories in their native language. Each episode also has English translation throughout, to help you get the gist of what’s going on. They currently have them available for Spanish and French.
From the archives 🔎
I’m challenging myself to read and watch more of ‘the classics’ / books and films that I feel like I should know about. I’ll be honest, I’m not convinced that some of them are worth the hype AT ALL. But if I come across some gems I’ll let you know about it.
Recently I’ve enjoyed…
✨ Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë - after watching the film Emily about Emily Brontë (featuring Emma Mackey), I thought I probably should get round to reading Wuthering Heights. Can confirm this is worth the hype. It was great.
✨ You’ve Got Mail - a Nora Ephron film featuring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. If you like When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless In Seattle then you’ll love this. It’s basically the same again but there’s no point changing a winning formula.
